Abstract

This paper is a textual analysis and interpretation of Yaw Asare’s Ananse in the Land of Idiots in
the light of Post-Colonial Theory. The paper outlines the various aspects of post-colonial and post Afro-
centric theories as used by the playwright in his work. It gives a critical perspective on the various
characters, themes and other issues raised by the playwright as symbolic representations of various sectors
and institutions in Africa. The paper concludes that Yaw Asare’s play is a literary attempt at waging a war
on European and Western imperialists who continually make life uncomfortable for the minorities, colonized
and the marginalized
