UEW Chemistry Lab Gets a Facelift
The Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has given a facelift to the Department of Chemistry Education Laboratory to expedite hands-on academic work at the department and the university.
The Head of the Department of Chemistry Education, Prof. Emmanuel Oppong, hinted in an interview that the refurbished facility had greatly streamlined teaching and learning.
"When water doesn't flow, you can’t do any meaningful practical work; therefore, the constant flow of water is a very good booster for our research work. Again, when there is no gas, we cannot do most of the heating of the reaction, so this is also a good add-on. We expect that each of the two laboratories that have been refurbished will take 60 students at a time, making it about 120 in all," he revealed.
Prof. Oppong noted the enthusiasm with which the renovated laboratories have rekindled teaching and learning at the Department. He entreated members of the Department to always maintain the renovated facilities for the benefit of present and future generations.
He hoped that the new laboratories will assist in the development of several new initiatives aimed at enhancing the faculty.
The Dean of the Faculty of Science Education, Prof. Victus Samlafo, pledged support to ensure the swift completion of the ongoing renovation works on the biology and physics laboratories.
He encouraged students to continue to work hard and let their excitement over the prospect of using the new chemistry laboratories for practical activities reflect in their end-of-semester grades.
Prof. Samlafo commended the contractor for a good job. He thanked UEW Management for their continued support of the Faculty of Science Education and implored them to fast-track work on the biology and physics laboratories.
