H. E. Shani Cooper Calls on UEW Management
The Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone, Her Excellency (H. E.) Shani Cooper has paid a courtesy call on the Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), to bid goodbye.
H. E. Shani Cooper will be vacating her post in a month and as custom demands, ought to officially say farewell to partners and to discuss further ways to strengthen their existing relationships.
H. E. Shani Cooper, accompanied by three other officials, visited the Management of UEW on Monday, 7th June, 2021, at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, North Campus, UEW.
The Israeli Ambassador indicated that UEW is one of the main partners for MASHAV in capacity building courses currently ongoing online. “We are working with the Registrar and sending once in a while all kinds of courses in education that we are offering and we’ve had a few online events. So, we are working on Gender together and Early Childhood and so on.
“I am very happy to be here again and to officially inform you that my mission has come to an end. This meeting is invariably a farewell meeting. I will be finishing my term within this month, I just wanted to say goodbye to our partners and to visit our wonderful Project TEN and see if we’ve had some progress since the last time,” H. E. Shani Cooper stated.
The Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni, on his part, said “We are happy that the beautiful nation of Israel is still involved with our University in capacity building in courses in Education, Gender and Early Childhood.
“In fact, I do know of at least two of our former students who got the privilege to do master’s programmes in Israel. Now, with regard to Project TEN, I want to hope that there will be more interactions ongoing because what they do is quite similar to what we do. It’s good to know that they are now in a relationship with seven schools and that there are volunteers who can come from Israel to support the project. I hope it becomes a good learning experience for them and for the young people in this country to also benefit from the interaction,” he noted.
Rev. Fr. Prof. Afful-Broni stressed that he was looking forward to several areas that UEW could be mutually beneficial to both parties. “We do have a Centre for Human Rights and Peace Studies which is into intelligence, peacekeeping, security and conflict resolution. I want to believe that it is an area that your country could be helpful.
“I am looking forward to the possibilities of partnerships if there are existing universities that run programmes similar to what we do; possibilities of exchange of human resource. Somebody could come from a university in Jerusalem or Nazareth for a semester. Another person from here could go to Israel for months, teach a few modules and it’s good that you are also very interested in Early Childhood education,” he emphasised.
Rev. Fr. Prof. Afful-Broni explained that “Early Childhood education is not a national or indigenous subject or matter; it is a very global, very current and contemporary agenda which I think we can continue conversations on. Ghana talks a lot about gender but of course, in practice, we probably do not do that much so here is another opportunity that I am looking forward to expanding. We will still be happy to continue collaborating with you, maybe on MASHAV, or with some of the universities in Jerusalem”.
