EPUC Leadership Calls on UEW Management to Improve upon Existing Relationship
A three-member delegation from the Evangelical Presbyterian University College (EPUC), has paid a courtesy call on Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), on Wednesday, 10th March, 2021, at Council Chamber, North Campus, UEW.
The visit was to formally introduce the new leadership of EPUC to the Management of UEW and also to explore how best both institutions could improve upon the existing relationship.
The President, EPUC, Prof. Edem Kwasi Bakah, in his opening remarks, said that his outfit had already had some level of relationship with UEW in the area of three Diploma Programmes in Business and one in Agricultural Science.
“The Programmes are Diploma in Human Resource Management, Diploma in General Agricultural Science, Diploma in Marketing and Diploma in Financial Management. We are currently running a Diploma in Resource Management. However, the rest have not taken off fully yet.
“As a mentor institution, we know you have certain regulations on how affiliation relationship should be managed and we are fully aware that such a relationship comes with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). So, our coming here is to use one stone to kill two birds; to formally introduce myself to you as the new President and also to kick start discussions on how quickly we can sign the MoU to formalise the relationship with you,” he averred.
Prof. Bakah added that his institution was also looking at areas of collaboration in terms of joint research projects and especially capacity building. “We are sure that our coming marks a new chapter for our relationship and this we believe will go a long way to bring us mutual benefits as far as the two institutions are concerned. Let me also use the opportunity to invite you to my investiture which is happening on 26thMarch at 2:00 pm.”
The Ag. Pro-Vice-Chancellor, UEW, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang, in his response, asserted the cooperative and smooth relationship UEW, as a mentor institution to EPUC, has with the latter institution.
“I have worked with you and I do not doubt that you will be able to bring some kind of progressive ideas and changes to your office to make a great mark. As a nation, we need every academic institution to work effectively, foster new ideas, then we can mutually develop.
“This is because, we are aware that government alone can never shoulder the educational project or agenda and, therefore, in the last ten to 15 years we acknowledge the extent to which private tertiary institutions have come to the rescue of the state. They have allowed many of our youth to have access to tertiary education. So, when we have an institution like EPUC, we need to give them the support that they need so that we can help the young men and women within their catchment area to get access to quality education,” he remarked.
Prof. Ofori-Birikorang expressed UEW’s pride in mentoring EPUC and promised to ensure that the MoU is signed as soon as possible. “On collaborative and joint research projects, well as a University, we are very much interested in that and I think it is an area that we need to forge on.”
The Registrar, UEW, Surv. Paul Osei-Barima Esq., on his part, assured the visitors that they had come home and gladly welcome them to UEW.
The President of EPUC was accompanied by the Registrar, Mr. Obed W. K. Adom and Assistant Registrar, Academic, Ms. Bridgitte Nuhoho.
