UEW Commissions First Ever Graduate Lounge in Ghana
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) on Tuesday, 18th December, 2018 commissioned the first ever Graduate lounge in any public University in Ghana at the Faculty of Social Sciences Education Block Room 405, North Campus, Winneba. The lounge, equipped with computers, Wi-Fi, a 65 inch television set, a fridge, a DSTV, air-conditioners, ceiling fans and furniture was established to intensify the research abilities of the Graduate Students.
The Dean, School of Research and Graduate Studies, Prof. George Kankam said that Universities in the world are graded based on the Graduate Programmes they run thereby Graduate Students become a focal point of every academic environment.
He lauded the Vice-Chancellor for placing Students particularly Graduate Students at the centre of UEW. He challenged the Graduate Students to put the facility to a very productive use.

“As you sit in to reflect, you reflect and theorise over the theses you will write. Bear in mind that, in doing academic work especially at the higher level, the more confused you become the more you learn. So that in the end we will see UEW Graduate Students as being the pioneers of research in our country.” The Dean said.
The Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni encouraged the Graduate Students to give the University good research. He promised to establish a similar facility at all the satellite campuses of the University as well as the two other campuses in Winneba (Central and South).

“This is just the beginning and I mean it. I want to be able to have Graduate lounges on all our campuses. So that our Graduate Students wherever they find themselves can find places where they can relax and do serious research.
“And so my dear students I hope that from now you will be better able to give us good research. I hope that you are not just going to download things. I hope that because of this lounge you are going to upload things. I hope that this lounge is going to be a testimony to this University and everyone in Ghana that we value you.” The Vice-Chancellor said.
The President, Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (UEW Chapter), Mr. Godwin Kusi Danquah commended Rev. Fr. Prof. Afful-Broni for executing his promise. “Rev. Fr. Prof. Afful Broni promised Graduate School and all Graduate Students that he is going to help us so that when students come to campus to see their supervisors, once their supervisors are busy, they will not be wandering around but they can have a place to sit comfortably. We are extremely excited and grateful to our Vice-Chancellor for honouring his promise.” Mr. Danquah said.
