UEW and St. Vincent College of Education Sign Pact
A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between UEW and St. Vincent College of Education, Yendi on Tuesday, 4th October, 2016 at the Council Chamber.
The pact, according to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mawutor Avoke is informed by the passage of the College of Education Act by the Government of Ghana to upgrade all Teacher Training Colleges into tertiary institutions and the desire of the University of Education, Winneba to establish strong relationship with other institutions in Ghana and beyond that shares the vision of training competent professional teachers. He added that the affiliation would enable UEW to support the staff of the College in terms of building their professional capacities to enhance teaching and learning.
The Principal of St. Vincent College of Education, Dr. Erasmus Norviewu-Mortty, viewed the signing of the agreement between the College and UEW as ‘a crucial milestone in the annals of the College’. He continued that the College’s ability to run its 3-year Diploma in Education program hinges on the event. The Registrar of the University, Dr. C. Y. Akwaa-Mensah, added that, it was very important to set educational standards and ensure that those standards were adhered to in the country. He added that it behooves the University to mentor the colleges by offering advice, direct and be available whenever assistance is sought.
In attendance were the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Afful-Broni, Ag. Principal of the College of Agriculture Education, Mampong, Prof. Kagya-Agyeman, Deputy Registrar, Division of Academic Affairs, Mrs. Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah, Deputy Registrar, Division of Publications and Communication, Mr. Steve van Kamassah and Deputy Finance Officer, Mr. Frank Owusu Boateng.
