The Role of the Library in Academia: UEW Educates Freshmen

The University of Education, Winneba has held a library orientation for the fresh students of the 2017/18 academic year at the Osagyefo Library located at the South Campus on Wednesday, 6th September, 2017.

The programme was to enlighten students on the role of the library in academic success and the usage of library facilities and services. Various personnel from the library were present at the occasion to share their knowledge and expertise on how students can effectively use the library.

The Assistant Senior Librarian at the Osagyefo Library, Mr. Thomas Ziem, stated that the Orientation was an initiation by the University to enable the freshmen and women know what actually goes on in the institution, adding that in the pursuit of academic success, students need to make use of the library to enable them do a further study on what is taught in the lecture hall.”

Mr Ziem stressed the need for this orientation and its usefulness to the students. He said, “In this orientation, we are trying to tell you what the library has and what it can offer to the student to help him or her in their "educational journey.”

He also urged for support for individuals with special needs to enable them get easy access to the library and its facilities, stating further that these individuals were deprived of equipment and materials to facilitate their activities at the library.

The Library Orientation was done as part of an orientation programme organized by the institution to aid in the smooth initiation of the fresh students into the Universityl.
