Late Prof. Martin Amoah Laid to Rest
The body of the late Dean of the Faculty of Vocational Education (FVE), Kumasi Campus of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Prof. Martin Amoah, has been laid to rest at Kotei-Deduako in Kumasi on Saturday, 27th June, 2020.
The 55-year-old Associate Professor, who dedicated 21 years of his working life in the service of UEW, was on course to reaching the acme of the academic ladder when he was suddenly taken ill on Sunday, 22ndMarch, 2020, and died few hours thereafter.
Even in an atmosphere of strict adherence to all COVID-19 etiquettes, appreciable numbers of sympathisers, including a strong delegation of UEW Management and Staff led by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang, paid their final respect to the late Prof. Amoah as they filed past the mortal remains lying-in-state.

Other UEW bigwigs who also graced the brief burial ceremony included the Principal of COLTEK, Prof. Frederick K. Sarfo; Registrar, Surv. Paul Osei Barima, Esq.; Finance Officer, Mr. Francis Obeng; Deans of Faculties of Technical Education, (FTE), Business Education (FBE), Education and Communication Sciences (FECS), and Vocational Education (FVE), other COLTEK Management Members; Vice Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Philip Oti-Agyen; and various Heads of Department from COLTEK and the Ashanti Mampong Campus of the UEW.
UEW paid glorying tributes to the Late Professor particularly, on his achievements and general contributions to the overall development of the University. Many sympathisers testified to Late Prof. Amoah’s hard work, commitment, warmth, generosity, love, care, empathy, and passion at the one-hour burial service held in his honour at the Grace Methodist Church, Kotei-Deduako.
“Your sudden demise has plainly robbed COLTEK, UEW and other Universities abroad (eg. Germany) of an astute academic, great researcher, an excellent administrator, an inspiring leader, and a warm person. In the least, you must know that these are attributes your colleagues and subordinates ascribe to you.”It read in part.
Funeral in session
Wife of the decease, Helena, indicated the depth of her heart-break on the sudden passing of her beloved husband, but she was poised to maintain the high standards that her late husband had set for the family. Children of the late Professor were grateful to God for every moment that they shared with their “irreplaceable father.”
In a sermon on the theme: “Aspiring to Inspire Before You Expire,” the Superintendent Minister, Asuoyeboah Circuit of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Very Rev. Joseph Asemah-Boadi encouraged the gathering to take cues from the demise Professor. He urged sympathisers to be selfless, work hard, and develop greatness in people. He also reminded the gathering of how transient life is, a reason he said, a man must live a life of continual support to others. He then paid glowing tribute to Prof. Amoah for his contribution towards helping many people to reach higher levels in life in his role as a lecturer, and servant in the church.
Meanwhile, members of the COLTEK Community with the Management of UEW led by Prof. Ofori-Birikorang, and Prof. Sarfo, observed a one-minute silence in honour of the Late Prof. Amoah at a special ceremony organised at the College on Friday, June 26, 2020.
