28th Congregation: UEW to Hold 3rd Session in August

In a significant announcement, Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has hinted that a third session of the 28th Congregation will be held in August this year.

This additional session aims to ensure that all outstanding students from the College for Distance and e-Learning (CODeL) have the opportunity to graduate, emphasising the university's commitment to inclusivity and academic excellence.

Prof. Mitchual made this declaration at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, North Campus, Winneba, during his address to graduands of the second session of the 28th Congregation.

Reaffirming UEW’s vision of becoming an internationally reputable institution for teacher education and research, Prof. Mitchual stated, "We are passionately committed to this vision, diligently training professional teachers for all levels of education, conducting research, disseminating valuable knowledge, and contributing meaningfully to educational policy and development."

He emphasised the university's commitment to its legacy of nurturing students to become beacons of enlightenment and empowerment for contemporary and future societies.

Highlighting recent advancements at CODeL, Prof. Mitchual noted the migration of student records onto the Online Student Information System (OSIS) platform, which allows students to access their academic records from home. He also mentioned the implementation of the Learning Management System, facilitating dynamic interactive online tutorials and access to the e-library, and the introduction of eight master’s degree programmes.

Prof. Mitchual urged the graduating students to leverage their experiences at UEW as a springboard to greater heights. "As soon-to-be graduates of this esteemed university, we proudly introduce you to the world as ambassadors of UEW. We send you into the professional realm, knowing some of you are already working and that you are ready to face the challenges and make a positive impact. UEW has equipped you with extensive knowledge and valuable experiences, increasing your worth and setting high expectations for your future contributions. Now is the time to support the development of your community and our nation," he asserted.

The second session of the 28th Congregation will see a total of 9,019 students graduating. Among them, 1,379 students (15%) will receive diplomas, 6,171 students (69%) will be awarded bachelor’s degrees, and 1,469 students (16%) will obtain various postgraduate degrees.

This announcement of a third congregation session underscores UEW’s dedication to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to celebrate their academic achievements and contribute to the nation’s growth.
