Dr. Martin Wiredu Agyekum is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Educational Research and Innovation Studies, University of Education, Winneba. Agyekum holds a Doctorate Degree (PhD) and Master of Arts Degree (MA) in Population Studies, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) in Sociology with Philosophy, all from the University of Ghana. He is a population health expert with over a decade of rich experience in conducting both quantitative and qualitative research. Before joining IERIS as a Research Fellow in 2022, he was a freelance research consultant. He has consulted for both local and international organisations.
He has worked on intervention, evaluation and policy-oriented projects and played key roles as a consultant, project manager, research assistant and fieldwork coordinator/supervisor for both local and international organisations. His research interests focus on population health, public health and education with a specific focus on maternal and child health, health care system, infectious disease, nutrition, contraceptives, and Non-communicable disease. He played a key role in the 2021 Ghana Population and Housing Census by serving as a national trainer and national monitor. He has published in top international journals and presented his work both at the local and international conferences. Currently, he serves as an editor for PlosONE and a reviewer for most top international peer-reviewed journals such as BMC International Breastfeeding Journal, BMC Public Health, BMC Women's Health, Journal of Human Vaccines and Immunotherapy, Frontiers in Public Health, Frontiers in Pediatrics and Children and Health
