The Department of Economics continues to produce the necessary manpower for public, private, and international institutions. Currently, the Department offers a Master of Philosophy in Economics, Master of Science in Economics Education, and B.A degree in Economics Education with either (Geography, Political science, Social studies, or History),.
B.A. degree in Economics Education with either (Geography, Political science, Social studies, or History)
The B.A. Economics Education Programme started in the 2013/2014 academic year when the then Social Science Department was split into four departments namely; Geography, Political Science, History, Social Studies, Economics Department was one of the divisions created. Students who choose to study B. A. Economics Education are made to select options from the other departments as minor areas.

Aims:
The programme aims at training students to become graduate teachers of Economics and demonstrate excellence in teaching through integrity, hard work, and dedication to work in the education sector and industry as a whole as well as render community services in Ghana, Africa, and beyond.
Objectives of the programme
The objectives of the B.A. Economics Education Programme is to;
- provide students with knowledge in various fields of study in Economics;
- equip students with pedagogical skills to teach economics in pre-tertiary institutions;
- analyse students with the theoretical principles underlying economic behaviour in society and
- expose students to the methods of economic research to develop their analytical abilities in resolving economic challenges.

Master of Philosophy in Economics
This is a two years programme designed to equip students with the intellectual apparatus and practical skills necessary for an economist working in private or public organisations in Ghana and the international community through research and knowledge dissemination. Master of Philosophy in Economics is a regular programme.
Aim and Objectives
Aim
The goal of the Master of Philosophy Programme in Economics is to develop the human capital necessary for the conduct of independent critical policy-oriented research and teaching at the tertiary levels of education. The programme also aims to develop the research competencies and capacities of students in economics of education and prepare students to pursue Doctor of Philosophy degrees.
Objectives
The objectives of the programme are to:
- train tertiary students with the ability to use more advanced economic theory and econometric methods to understand, appreciate and address public policy issues and be able to carry out policy-relevant research related to the economic needs of Ghana and other developing countries;
- equip students with advanced analytical techniques in microeconomic theory, macroeconomic theory, and econometric methods that apply to issues in educational policies;
- provide students with rigorous training in economics of education so they can make a significant contribution to research in emerging issues in economics of education; and
- provide students with relevant knowledge, skills, and expertise needed to pursue a Ph.D. programme.
These objectives will be accomplished through extensive course work, significant faculty-student and student-student interactions, and in-depth analyses of challenges in the context of project work.

Master of Science in Economics Education
The MSc. in Economics Education programme spans one (1) year made up of two consecutive sandwich sessions for a minimum period to complete the programme and a maximum of four long vacations. is designed to equip the student with the relevant knowledge and practical skills necessary for an economist working in either the private or public organisations in the education and other sectors in Ghana and the international community.

This MSc. in Economics Education programme is designed to develop the knowledge and skills of teachers and other professionals who seek a degree that focuses on mainstream but less theoretical (modeling) economic units.
Objectives
This proposed MSc. in Economics Education programme seeks to achieve the following objectives:
- provide an opportunity for students who seek to strengthen their skills and techniques in economics and quantitative methods to perform their tasks in teaching and other professional areas;
- equip students with the requisite skills and expertise for administrative positions in education and other sectors such as a head of departments, headmasters, etc;
- strengthen the teaching and research capacity of students in curriculum design and assessment techniques and
- enable students to develop entrepreneurial and innovative approaches that enhance creativity and productivity, especially in the education sector.
