Mavis Amo-Mensah is an experienced scholar in Communications with special interests in Public Relations, Corporate Communication, Strategic Communication, Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability. She holds a PhD in Public Relations and Strategic Communication from Leeds Beckett University, Leeds, UK, where she served as a member of the Integrated Reporting Steering Committee of the Centre for Governance, Leadership and Global Responsibility; an International Student Ambassador and Treasurer of ENACTUS (Entrepreneurial Action Us). She is an Alumna of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, UK, and an Accredited member of the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana.
To advance her academic and professional career, Mavis has participated in various communication programmes and has presented research papers in several countries around the world including Germany, Sweden, Austria, USA, Slovenia, Norway, Spain, Greece, Denmark, France, UK, Kenya and Ghana. She has extensive experience in Research and has worked as a research consultant for Global School Pilot Project in New York.
Mavis has won several awards, both locally and internationally, for her contributions to the field of Public Relations and Strategic Communication including Best Doctoral Paper award for research in Public Relations and Strategic Communication in 2016 at Leeds Beckett University; PR academic of the year award, at the 8th National PR and Communication Excellence Awards organised in 2019 by the Institute of Public Relations Ghana; an Emerald Literati Award for ‘Outstanding Author Contribution’ in 2019; and an award for 'Creative Thinking and Contribution' at a Two-Week Erasmus Funded Programme in Greece. She is a member of the Interim Management Team of the Communication Educators Association of Ghana and she served as member of the Governing Council of the Presbyterian Women’s College of Education, Aburi. She has also served as Vice-President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UEW-Branch). Mavis is currently Head of the Department of Strategic Communication, School of Communication and Media Studies, and was previously Director, Office for Institutional Advancement of the University. She is an Associate Professor in Public Relations and Strategic Communication and serves as external examiner for various communication training institutions in the country.
