Postgraduate and third-year undergraduate students from the Department of Strategic Communication at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), on Friday, 21st June, 2024, visited the Dentsu Ghana in Accra for an educational exploration.
The students, led by Mr. Stephen Osei Akyiaw, a senior lecturer at the School of Communication and Media Studies (SCMS), UEW, and supported by Ms. Belinda Osei-Mensah, a lecturer at SCMS-UEW, explored the dynamic space of strategic marketing communication and public relations.
The visit aimed to impart practical insights to the students and bridge the gap between academic theory and industry practice.

She underscored the essential skills required in the integrated marketing communication landscape, emphasising resilience, networking, and continuous skill development. She highlighted the agency's commitment to inclusivity by sharing inspiring stories of employees excelling regardless of background, fostering an environment where diversity thrives.
The students were then guided through the operations of three prominent Dentsu Ghana subsidiaries: Carat, Dentsu Creatives, and iProspect. Bithia Awuku-Asante, General Manager of Carat Ghana, provided a comprehensive overview of their role in Ghana's integrated marketing space. She illuminated the journey from client brief to media planning and creative execution, showcasing impactful projects such as those for Telecel Ghana.

She emphasised the shift towards proactive, data-driven strategies aimed at fostering enduring connections and managing corporate reputation effectively.
Edem Dzokoto, Creative Director of Dentsu Creative Ghana, led the students through the creative process. He illustrated how innovative strategies and collaborative efforts drive success in today's competitive landscape, citing compelling case studies from iconic brands like Maggi. He stressed the transformative impact of data-driven communication and artificial intelligence, underscoring the importance of adapting to the evolving job market.
The visit enriched the students' academic journey and demonstrated Dentsu Ghana's influence on Ghana's marketing and communication landscape. Future internship and national service opportunities offered by the network further solidified the bond between UEW Strategic Communication students and the organisation, setting the stage for their professional growth.
This experience was a testament to the invaluable synergy between academia and industry, fostering a generation of strategic communicators self-assured to make a meaningful impact in the field.
