Leader in Teacher Education

History

The Department of Home Economics Education was an integral part of the Specialist Training College, Winneba which was integrated into the University College of Education, Winneba in 1992. In the year 2020, the department was renamed as Department of Integrated Home Economics Education| under the then Faculty of Home Economics Education. The Department runs a 4-year B.Sc degree, M.Ed Sandwich and M.Phil Programmes in Home Economics. There are five units under the Department, namely: Clothing and Textiles, Food and Nutrition,  Management in Living, Food Production Unit and Clothing Production Unit..  The food Production Unit provides catering services to the University community and its environs, while the Clothing Production Unit undertakes contract sewing of clothing items for the University and other institutions. Apart from the fact that the two production units of the department provide IGF to the University, they offer students the opportunity to have industrial experience thereby, making their training in the department more practical and occupation-relevant to reduce graduate unemployment. The department currently has an appreciable student population with interest in its programmes continually growing.

Our curriculum gives students a solid foundation for further studies (Masters and Doctorate).
