UEW Hosts Nestlé Business Services to Equip Students with Digital Skills

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) in collaboration with Nestlé Business Services (NBS), held a career and skills development seminar on Friday, 22nd August 2025, aimed at preparing students for the competitive job market.

The event, organised through the University’s Department of Information and Communication Technology Education (ICTE) brought together industry experts from NBS to share insights on employability, digital innovation and professional readiness.

Prof. Delali Kwasi Dake, Head of ICTE, highlighted the importance of the engagement, noting that graduates often compete with thousands of applicants for limited opportunities. He urged students to focus on the skills and career strategies being shared, describing Nestlé’s presence on campus as “a privilege and a first of its kind.”

Providing an overview of NBS, Ms. Foluke Jaiyeola, Human Resource Business Partner, emphasised the organisation’s role as a shared services centre supporting Nestlé operations across Central, West, East and Southern Africa. She explained that NBS offers integrated marketing, supply chain, human resource, finance and technology services, stressing the company’s vision “to be the partner of choice for business agility and digital innovation success.”

She also introduced Nestlé’s Global Youth Initiative, designed to provide internships, national service and graduate trainee opportunities to young talents.

From the Data and Technology team, Mr. Johnny Haick and Mr. James Arthur highlighted the vital role of software development and data analytics within Nestlé. Mr. Haick explained how automation helps streamline business operations while Mr. Arthur emphasised the growing importance of data-driven decision-making.

He encouraged ICT students to master tools such as SQL, Power BI and Python, noting that practical skills are essential for securing employment in technology-driven organisations.

Delivering practical guidance on succeeding in job interviews, Ms. Alberta Aidoo outlined strategies students should adopt to stand out. She emphasised preparation, confidence, effective communication and research about prospective employers. According to her, first impressions, body language and the ability to demonstrate practical skills are crucial to interview success.

Dr. Stephen Opoku Oppong expressed gratitude to NBS for engaging with UEW students, describing the seminar as an eye-opening session that demystified the job market. He urged NBS to consider creating internship and national service placements for UEW students, assuring that the knowledge shared would significantly impact their career journeys.

The event, which attracted large student participation, forms part of UEW’s ongoing efforts to bridge academia with industry and prepare graduates to excel in an increasingly digital and competitive employment environment.
