Ms. Shine Lillian Gifty Agbevivi
Director
Dear special guest, we are delighted to welcome you.
You are most welcome to the Directorate of Basic Schools of the University of Education, Winneba. The Directorate abounds in love, play, happiness, knowledge, and so much laughter. We focus on the provision of holistic education by offering our learners a stimulating atmosphere to explore and develop. Our primary aim is to produce responsible, talented, knowledgeable, and God-fearing leaders for society, both locally and internationally. Hence, we prioritize staff and student security, welfare, and satisfaction.
The Directorate of Basic Schools is a critical unit within the University established to serve as a center of excellence in the practical training of pre-service and in-service teachers. It oversees the management, coordination, and supervision of all basic schools in the University, including Crèche, Nursery, Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High School levels. These schools function as model schools for pedagogical innovation, curriculum implementation, action research, and the holistic development of learners in line with national education standards and global best practices.
The primary purpose of the Directorate is to provide a structured, well-resourced, and professionally managed school environment where student-teachers can observe, practice, and refine their teaching skills under the guidance of experienced mentor teachers and university faculty. It also aims to ensure that pupils within these schools receive quality basic education that supports their cognitive, emotional, social, and moral development.
The Directorate envisions a child-friendly and inclusive learning environment that is safe, stimulating, and supportive of active engagement. It promotes the use of innovative teaching methods, integration of technology, and learner-centred practices. The environment is expected to foster mutual respect, discipline, creativity, and a strong culture of academic excellence. The Directorate maintains a collaborative and transparent relationship with parents and guardians, encouraging their involvement in school activities and decision-making processes through Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), regular communication, and community outreach programmes. It values pupils as active participants in the learning process and strives to meet their diverse needs and aspirations. With staff, the Directorate fosters a professional and collegial atmosphere, promoting continuous professional development, teamwork, and shared leadership.
We establish and maintain well-functioning model basic schools that serve as effective practicum centres for teacher education while delivering quality basic education to pupils and hope to become a nationally recognised centre for excellence in basic education and teacher preparation, significantly contributing to educational research, curriculum development, and community transformation through innovative teaching and learning practices.
The Director is the chief administrative officer of the Directorate. Currently, this position is headed by an experienced and dedicated teacher with years of teaching and managerial experience in all levels of the educational ladder; basic, secondary, pre-tertiary, and tertiary.
