GMD-UEW Hosts Mentorship Seminar

In a bid to cultivate a culture of mentorship and foster professional growth within the university community, the Gender Mainstreaming Directorate (GMD) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), orchestrated a transformative seminar targeted at junior and assistant registrars.

Held on the 26th of February, 2024, at the North Campus Mini-Conference Room in Winneba, the seminar served as a beacon of enlightenment, illuminating the profound impacts of mentorship on both mentors and mentees alike.

Under the stewardship of Dr. Obaapanin Oforiwaa Adu, the Director of GMD-UEW, the seminar opened with a resounding call, urging administrative staff to aspire towards future leadership roles.

Dr. Adu underscored the indispensable role of mentorship in grooming individuals for elevated positions within the university hierarchy, stressing the importance of honing essential skills such as effective writing and communication.

Dr. Francis Narh Akrono, a seasoned administrator and Manager of University Hall at UEW, provided insights that resonated deeply with attendees as he articulated the symbiotic nature of mentorship, emphasising its reciprocity.

"Mentorship is a reciprocal relationship," Dr. Akrono emphasised. "Both mentors and mentees must derive mutual benefits for it to flourish."

Dr. Akrono illuminated the strategic significance of mentorship within organisations, highlighting its pivotal role in preserving institutional knowledge and continuity. "When experienced employees mentor their junior counterparts, it ensures the preservation of the organisation's status quo and facilitates continuous improvement," he remarked.

Attendees left the seminar imbued with a sense of purpose and anticipation for the forthcoming mentorship programme. Their optimism was palpable as they eagerly anticipated the transformative impact that mentorship would wield on their professional trajectories.
