UEW Ag. Registrar Urges Janitors to Uphold Excellence in Preparation for Students’ Return
The Acting Registrar of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Mrs. Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah, has urged the university's janitorial staff to uphold the highest standards of cleanliness and professionalism in preparation for the return of students for the new academic year.
The appeal was made during a comprehensive training workshop designed to enhance the skills and competencies of the janitorial staff in effectively performing their duties. The workshop, held at the Students Centre Seminar Room II, North Campus, UEW, on Tuesday, 10th December, 2024, was to equip attendees with critical skills necessary for ensuring a clean and safe environment conducive to learning.
Throughout the training session, participants were engaged in insightful presentations and practical demonstrations focused on elevating service delivery. Topics covered included "Understanding Client Service," which highlighted the importance of a customer-oriented approach in the janitorial services sector. This was followed by a session on "Health, Safety, and Personal Hygiene in Cleaning," providing crucial information on maintaining high hygiene standards to prevent the spread of illnesses.
In addition, janitors were trained on "How to Handle Chemicals and Cleaning Equipment," ensuring they were knowledgeable about using cleaning agents effectively and safely, protecting both themselves and the facility's occupants. The focus on "Deep Cleaning Techniques" provided them with the advanced skills necessary for maintaining cleanliness in high-traffic and sensitive areas, which is increasingly important in maintaining the university's commitment to a sanitary environment.
In her welcome address, Mrs. Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah commended janitors for their invaluable contributions to the university’s success and urged them to continue delivering excellence in their respective roles. “Your hard work has significantly contributed to our academic excellence,” she stated.
Mrs. Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah emphasised the indispensable role each staff member plays in the university’s operations. “In the absence of your contribution, the school would suffer; hence, your hard work is very important,” the Ag. Registrar said, urging them to redouble their efforts for the benefit of the institution.
Mrs. Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah assured them that necessary adjustments would be made to ease their workload, where possible, and urged them to bring forward any concerns through the appropriate channels. She encouraged them to communicate issues through their departmental heads, who could relay concerns to the University Management for action.
As part of UEW’s continuous efforts to foster an environment of excellence, the university has reiterated its commitment to regular training and development opportunities for its staff. The Ag. Registrar affirmed, "Empowering our staff not only improves our service delivery but also enriches the university's community as a whole."
The University of Education, Winneba, anticipates a seamless transition as students return, confident in the preparations made by its dedicated janitorial team. With these enhanced skills, janitors will play a significant role in ensuring that the campus remains a welcoming and healthy environment for all.
