Entry Requirement

To qualify for the Ph.D degree programme, the applicant shall normally be:

  1. Be a postgraduate student of UEW or other Universities recognized by the Academic Board of the UEW.
  2. Have a researched Master’s degree in French normally with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in Language/Linguistics, French Literature, Francophone African Literature and Culture, Didactics or Translation, or a relevant qualification approved by the Academic Board.
  3. All applicants to the Ph.D degree programme will be required to submit, together with the application form, a research proposal of about 3000 type-written words, Font 12, Times New Roman, double spacing. The main features of the research proposal shall cover the following:
  • Topic of proposed study
  • Overview/scope of proposed study
  • Justification for the study
  • Problem under investigation
  • Hypotheses/Research questions
  • Aims/objectives
  • Theoretical framework for the study
  • Related literature and previous work already done in the area of proposal study
  • Outline of research design (context, population, method of study, time sequence)
  • Facilities and resources available for the proposed study.

The duration for the programme is 6-10 semesters (3-5 years).
