Newly Appointed COLANG Principal Pays Courtesy Call on Ajumako Omanhene

Prof. (Mrs.) Rebecca Atchoi Akpanglo-Nartey, newly appointed Principal of the College of Languages Education (COLANG) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has paid a courtesy call to the Omanhene of the Ajumako Traditional Council, Okokudurfo Ogyeabour Kwamena Hammah Ababio II. This visit was part of her mission to strengthen ties with key stakeholders.

The visit reaffirms the University’s commitment to fostering mutual development between the College and the Ajumako community. 

The Omanhene welcomed Prof. Akpanglo-Nartey and her delegation, expressing gratitude for her visit. Okokudurfo Ogyeabour emphasised his support for the College and its leadership. He assured the Principal that his doors remained open for consultations and collaborations to enhance the College’s growth and benefit the wider Ajumako community. 

“I urge you to remain bold, resolute and focused in your responsibilities. Success will surely be yours if you stay true to your vision,” the Omanhene advised. He recalled the pivotal role played by the Traditional Council in facilitating the transition of the College from the Ghana Education Service to UEW, underscoring the deep historical connection between the institution and the community. 

The Omanhene respectfully urged the Principal to consider prioritising the inclusion of Ajumako’s youth in the University’s admission and recruitment processes. He acknowledged the challenges posed by unemployment in the region and expressed his hopeful belief that the College will continue to be a significant source of opportunity for the people of Ajumako.

In keeping with tradition, Prof. Akpanglo-Nartey and her team expressed appreciation for the warm reception by presenting some schnapps, soft drinks, and water to the Omanhene and his elders.

Speaking after the meeting, Prof. Akpanglo-Nartey reaffirmed her commitment to engaging stakeholders in collaborative efforts that would uplift both the College and the Ajumako community. “Our shared history with this community is invaluable. My administration will prioritise strengthening these ties and exploring opportunities that benefit both the University and the people of Ajumako,” she said. 

The visit signals a renewed partnership between COLANG and the Ajumako Traditional Council, reinforcing UEW’s mission to foster educational excellence while contributing to the socio-economic development of its host communities.
