7th Biennial Social Science Conference 2024
African societies have faced numerous challenges over the years and continue to endure them. Some of these challenges are linked to episodes of underdevelopment, poverty, hunger, food crises, and diseases, accompanied by weak institutional frameworks to address these issues. Society expects the provision of robust governance structures and guidelines. However, the structures and processes designed to ensure responsiveness, inclusivity, and an empowered society have not consistently produced the desired results. Despite the availability of substantial resources and appropriate governance structures, society has not been adequately cared for.
Institutions of governance, designed to alleviate these challenges, have struggled to do so. Society has had to rely on individual efforts to navigate through the effects of the various challenges it faces. The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the fragile nature of governance structures. Equity and inclusiveness were lacking, society was poorly prepared and empowered to respond adequately, and accountability and transparency were deficient. Public health mass education was in disarray, causing fear and panic. In this context, the 2024 Social Science Conference aims to examine post-pandemic adjustment from governance and societal perspectives.
The conference is scheduled as follows:
Dates: 26th March - 27th March 2024
Venue: Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre
Theme: "Bringing the gown to town: Governance, Society and Post Pandemic Adjustments."
