B. A. (Economics Education)
Description
Objectives of the programme are to:
» Provide relevant courses in Economics to students;
» Equip students with pedagogical skills to teach economics in pre-tertiary and higher level institutions.
» Acquaint students with the theoretical principles underlying economic behaviour in society;
» Expose students to the methods of economic research in order to develop their analytical abilities in resolving economic problems.

Entry Requirement
A. SSSCE Candidates
• Credit passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science OR Social Studies, plus
• Credit passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects (i.e. Economics, Elective Mathematics, Geography, Government, History, and Religious Studies).
B. WASSCE Candidates
• Credit passes (A1–C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English
• Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science OR Social Studies, plus
• Credit passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects (i.e. Economics, Elective Mathematics, Geography, Government, History and Religious Studies).
A. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Candidates
• Credit passes in three (3) relevant subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better), i. e. Economics, Mathematics,
Geography, Government, History, and Religious Studies.
• Also the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary level subjects including English, Mathematics and a Science subject (for-non-science students) and an arts subject for Science students.
B. Higher National Diploma (HND) Candidates
• Candidates must have graduated with good HND certificate (at least 2nd Class Lower Division) in the
• relevant social science subjects.
• In addition, the applicant must have acquired a 2-year post HND qualification working experience.
A. Special Departmental requirements
• Applicants intending to study Economics as major area must have taken Economics and obtained a grade of at least C4 or its equivalent at WASSCE
• Applicants must have a grade of at least C4 in Core Mathematics
• Applicants must have at least grade C6 in any two of the relevant elective subjects (i. e. Geography, Government, History, Religious Studies, Islamic Religious Studies and Elective Mathematics).
• Credit pass (C6 or better) in Elective Mathematics will be an added advantage.
B. Mature Applicants
• Applicants must be at least 25 years old by September 1 of the academic year one wants to enrol.
• The applicant must also pass both the general UEW and Departmental Entrance Examinations.
