About Us
Welcome Message/ Introduction
The Ghanaian health sector is experiencing a surge in middle-level manpower development, particularly in health services delivery. The University of Education, Winneba and Department of Health Administration and Education have the necessary expertise to meet these demands. The Department of Health Administration and Education has therefore developed and currently runs a 4-year B.Sc Health Administration and Education program, since December 2013 to meet the human resource need. Between 2013 to 2023 we have graduated about 215 students, 85% of these graduates working as health administrators in various health sectors in Ghana. We are looking forward in the coming years to increase the numbers of certified health administrators from our department.
History
There has been a rising need for middle-level manpower development in the Ghanaian health sector to manage the administrative set-up and professional development for education in health services delivery over the years. Additionally the request of graduates from senior high schools and healthcare institutions for initial and further education in healthcare is also becoming overwhelming. These demands are not new but have become essential in recent times due to the availability of various healthcare facilities in Ghana for different age groups of the population and the increasing population of the Ghanaian youth seeking to acquire qualifications in these areas. The University of Education, Winneba, in general, and the Department of Health Administration and Education, under the Faculty of Health, Allied Sciences and Home Economics Education, in particular, have the manpower and the expertise to satisfy the demands by the general public for professional training of Health Administrators in Ghana. Department of Health Administration and Education currently runs 4-years B.Sc Health Administration and Education programme. The programme had its first accreditation on December 1, 2013. We have developed ten new programmes which are at various stages of accreditation and initiated steps to establish a department of Public Health and Education to house some of these new programmes.
