Pioneering distance education in Ghana since 1993
The College for Distance and e-Learning (CODeL) is the University of Education, Winneba's institutional framework for the design, coordination and delivery of distance and e-learning programmes.
Its roots go back to the Institute for Educational Development and Extension (IEDE), established in 1992, which pioneered distance education in Ghana in 1993, making UEW the first public institution in the country to institutionalise distance learning at the tertiary level. IEDE became the Institute for Distance and e-Learning (IDeL) in 2017, and CODeL in 2019.
Today CODeL widens participation in higher education and supports lifelong learning through a nationally distributed network of study centres.
