UEW Inducts Interim Executive Officers to Spearhead Alumni Association Reorganisation

To revitalise alumni relations and strengthen institutional ties, the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), officially inducted the Interim Executive Officers for its Alumni Association on Thursday, 13th February, 2025.
The induction ceremony, held at the Conference Room of the Principal of the College for Distance and e-Learning (CODeL), marked a crucial milestone in the reorganisation of the Alumni Association, following the establishment of the Alumni Reorganisation Committee. The induction signals a new phase in UEW’s commitment to enhancing alumni engagement and governance structures.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Frimpong Kaakyire Duku, Chairman of the Alumni Reorganisation Committee, outlined the specific mandate and responsibilities of the newly inducted Interim Executive Officers. Their role, he emphasised, is to lay the foundation for a structured and sustainable Alumni Association that effectively serves both its members and the university.
Their responsibilities include providing strong leadership and governance by finalising and implementing the Alumni Constitution, developing governance policies, and establishing regional and district alumni branches. Transparency and accountability in financial matters were also highlighted, with an emphasis on implementing a clear financial reporting system, launching fundraising initiatives, and improving the collection of alumni dues to ensure a sustainable funding model.
Strengthening alumni engagement was another major focus, with plans to introduce mentorship and career development programmes, expand international alumni networks, and organise professional development and networking events. The need to ensure election integrity was also emphasised, with a call for a formal grievance resolution mechanism, transparent electoral processes, and adoption of digital voting platforms to enhance participation and security.

Speaking on behalf of the newly inducted Interim Executive Officers, Dr. Samuel Ofori Danquah, Interim President, expressed deep appreciation to the University Management for initiating the reorganisation process. He commended the Alumni Reorganisation Committee for their hard work structuring the roadmap for rebuilding the association. Acknowledging the challenges and high expectations, he reaffirmed the executives’ dedication to fulfilling their mandate and outlined their immediate priorities.
“One of the key priorities is improving alumni data management and digital transformation. The executive team plans to collaborate with the Directorate of IT Services to streamline and update alumni data while developing digital communication channels to keep members informed and engaged.
“Branding and visibility of the Alumni Association will also be strengthened. The leadership aims to rebrand the association to create a more dynamic and recognisable identity while mobilising recent graduates to actively participate in alumni activities. Additionally, securing an official administrative office for the association remains a top priority,” Dr. Danquah affirmed.
The Interim President appealed to the university administration and stakeholders for support in providing a dedicated space to enhance the efficiency of alumni operations.

The induction ceremony underscored UEW’s renewed vision of cultivating a more structured, transparent, and engaged alumni community. With the Interim Executive Officers serving a tenure that extends until 12th February, 2026, they are expected to lay a strong foundation for future elected executives, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Alumni Association.
As UEW strives to bridge the gap between past and present students, this reorganisation initiative signifies a new era of alumni involvement. With a focus on networking, mentorship, and professional development, the revitalised Alumni Association aims to play a pivotal role in the university’s growth and the career advancement of its graduates.
The university community and stakeholders eagerly anticipate the progress that will be made under the leadership of the Interim Executive Officers, as they work towards creating a more inclusive and impactful alumni network.
