UTAG-UEW Honours Vice-Chancellor for Exemplary Support and Collaborative Leadership

Executives of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Chapter of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG-UEW) have presented a plaque to Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, the Vice-Chancellor of UEW, in recognition of his continuous support to the Association and its members.

At a brief ceremony held on Monday, 23rd February, 2026, at his office, UTAG-UEW celebrated the Vice-Chancellor’s consistent commitment to the welfare of UTAG members and his readiness to make swift and decisive interventions on issues that advance their interests and the broader progress of the University community.

Presenting the plaque, Mr. Stephen Osei Akyiaw, the President of UTAG-UEW, expressed profound appreciation to Prof. Mitchual for his open-door policy and inclusive leadership style. He noted that this approach has fostered mutual respect, transparency and constructive engagement between University Management and the Association.

According to the UTAG-UEW President, the recognition serves as a testament to the Vice-Chancellor’s steady support for staff welfare and his broader vision of building a harmonious academic environment grounded on consultation and partnership.

Receiving the plaque, Prof. Mitchual expressed gratitude to the Association for the honour, describing it as both humbling and motivating. He reaffirmed his support for UTAG-UEW, particularly when the Association pursues causes that are just, reasonable and aligned with the University’s collective interest.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the leadership of UTAG-UEW for consistently choosing dialogue and constructive discussion as the preferred approach to resolving concerns, noting that such an approach strengthens institutional cohesion and stability.

He emphasised that collaboration between Management and staff associations remains indispensable to the growth and transformation of the University. He reiterated his commitment to sustaining a leadership culture that encourages engagement, mutual understanding and shared responsibility in decision-making.

The presentation further reinforced the cordial relationship between University Management and UTAG-UEW, highlighting a shared commitment to partnership, institutional progress and the continuous development of UEW.

The gesture by UTAG-UEW underscores the importance of collaborative leadership and constructive labour-management relations in advancing the mission and vision of the University.
