SoB-UEW Finishes off as Southwest Zonal Champion of TBSC v6.0

The School of Business (SoB) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has been crowned Southwest Zonal Champion in a fiercely contested Tertiary Business Sense Challenge (TBSC) v6.0. UEW emerged victorious with an impressive total of 65 points, showcasing consistent excellence throughout five intense rounds.

The competition, held at the School of Creative Arts Theatre on the Central Campus of UEW, on Tuesday, 20th August, 2024, brought together the brightest minds from various tertiary institutions across the Central Region. As the defending national champion, UEW demonstrated its business acumen from the very first round, maintaining its lead to ultimately securing the top spot.

The University of Cape Coast (UCC), a formidable force and two-time national champion, finished in second place with 50 points, while the Nduom School of Business and Technology claimed third place with 19.5 points. The event tested students' understanding of both theoretical concepts and practical applications in business, with questions spanning topics such as entrepreneurship, finance, marketing strategies, and business ethics. The participating teams engaged in challenging problem-solving activities that underscored the importance of teamwork, strategic thinking, and effective communication.

Beyond the intellectual competition, the event was enriched by a vibrant cultural display. The UEW Spartans group energised the atmosphere with electrifying ‘Jama’ performances, featuring traditional drumming and dancing that captivated the attention of both competitors and the audience. The lively performances provided a joyful and culturally significant interlude, celebrating the rich heritage of the institution.

Dr. Emmanuel Erastus Yamoah, Vice-Dean of SoB-UEW, expressed immense pride in the students' achievements and optimism for the future of business education in Ghana. He commended the participants for their dedication and depth of knowledge, emphasising that every participant was a winner, regardless of the final scores. Dr. Yamoah noted that the skills developed during the competition would serve the students well both academically and in their future careers.

He also extended his gratitude to the organisers, faculty, and contributors, acknowledging their efforts in creating a platform that prepares students to navigate the complexities of the modern business world. Dr. Yamoah encouraged continued support for such initiatives, which nurture talent and foster critical thinking.

Mr. Samuel Gameli Gadzo, Head Coach of Team UEW, reflected on the victory, stating, "I was never sitting on any tenterhooks. I knew this day was for us." He highlighted the importance of experience and thorough preparation, advising other schools to carefully consider their candidate selection for future competitions.

Following the competition, a UEW contestant shared his excitement and relief, remarking, "It has not been easy; today it's unfortunate for UCC that the best school has won." The contestant attributed their success to hard work and determination, promising supporters that the team would continue to excel as they "climb the ladder" in the upcoming national competition.

This victory solidifies UEW's standing as a dominant force in the TBSC v6.0, setting a high bar for the national stage. With their eyes set on further success, the UEW team and its supporters eagerly anticipate the challenges ahead, confident in their ability to maintain their winning streak and bring more glory to the institution.
