Centre for Conflict, Human Rights and Peace Studies to Develop PhD Programme
The Centre for Conflict, Human Rights and Peace Studies (CHRAPS) of the Faculty of Social Sciences Education has undergone a three-day retreat at the Elmina Beach Resort, Elmina in the Central Region of Ghana, from Wednesday, 8th to Friday, 10th December, 2021.
The retreat was intended to help the Centre to develop and introduce new academic programmes to meet its objective of producing comprehensive curricula tailored to meet Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) requirements as well as enable the University to compete with international programmes run by top-notch universities around the world.
Ag. Head, Planning Unit, UEW, Mr. Prince Asiedu, schooled the team on the guidelines for the creation of new courses and programmes. In his presentation, he highlighted course requirements, how to maintain students in the programme, national policies to support the programmes in question, funding and staffing.
He encouraged the Centre to take this bold step in introducing the new Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme in Human Rights, Conflict and Peace studies as it will go a long way to benefit the Centre and the University as an Institution.
