Ga-Dangme Action Caucus Donates to COLANG
The Department of Ga-Dangme Education of the College of Languages Education (COLANG), Ajumako Campus, University of Education, Winneba (UEW), on Thursday, 18th March, 2021, received a donation of assorted items and cash from the Ga-Dangme Action Caucus during a visit to the College.
The delegation was represented by the Ga Queen mother of La, Naa Ju Yoo Tsofayelor; Ga Queen mother of Mayera, Naa Densua Afriyie; and Mr. Ladi Nylander.
The group donated three boxes of hand sanitisers (180 pieces), two boxes of face masks (about 900 pieces), food items such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, soap and canned fish worth GH₵ 3,000 to be distributed to level 100 Ga and Dangme students and a cash amount of GH₵ 630 to supplement the purchase of textbooks for the students.
In a short ceremony held at the Assembly Hall and attended by all students of the Ga-Dangme Department, the group indicated that their mission was to promote the study of Ga and Dangme Languages as well as their culture through sponsorship and provision of aids. Such assistance is in the form of the payment of fees and accommodation for students and to facilitate the posting of students into schools in the Greater Accra Region.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Principal of COLANG, Prof. Dominic Kwaku Danso Mensah, the Ag. College Registrar, Mr. Osei-Bediako Appau, thanked the group and commended them for such a good course.
Ag. Head, Department of Ga-Dangme Education, Dr. Yvonne A. A. Ollennu, on her part, used the opportunity to admonish similar groups within the Greater Accra Region to join in the course of helping promote the Ga and Dangme culture and languages.
Also present at the ceremony were the Ag. Dean, Faculty of Ghanaian Languages Education, Prof. Charles Owu-Ewie; Graduate Programmes Coordinator, Dr. Regina O. Caesar; and other lecturers of the Department of Ga-Dangme Education.
