This Department of the Institute is responsible for organising student placement in partner schools for the Student Internship Programme (SIP) for students of the University. It also oversees the Supported Teaching in School Programme (STS) of the Departments of Basic Education and Early Childhood and Care Education, as well as that of the affiliated Colleges of Education. It is thus made up of the SIP Unit of ITECPD and the STS Units in the various affiliated Colleges of Education and the Basic Education and Early Childhood and Care Education Departments of UEW.

The Department, organises SIP for UEW students. The Department also handle the Industrial Attachment Programme of the School of Communication and Media Studies, and the School of Business. It also organised training workshops for STS Coordinators in affiliated Colleges of Education, whose students embark on their Embedding Teaching in Schools for the first time and lecturers of some of Basic and Early Childhood Departments in UEW. The Department of ISTS reviews the Students Record Book, used for both the SIP and STS to reflect the National Teaching Standards. It also makes arrangements for ITECPD  to embark on the monitoring of STS activities in affiliated Colleges and their partnership schools.

The ISTS Department of ITECPD also organises pre-internship seminars for Level 300 students in UEW, before the end of the second semester of each academic year. These students are placed in Partner Schools to do their internship. The Department organises training workshops for Mentors of the SIP in partner Schools and for supervisors in the various Academic Departments of UEW.
