UEW Security Receive Investigative Training
The Division of Human Resource with the Directorate of Security Services has organised a three-day workshop on Investigation for selected security personnel of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).
The workshop, intended to enable the University’s security personnel to identify crime and understand the initial responsibilities to commence investigations, took place at the Prof. Nathaniel K. Pecku Conference Room, North Campus of UEW from Wednesday, 10th to Friday, 12th November, 2021.
Mr. Ahmed Farouk took the security personnel through “Criminal Law and Other Criminal Offences, the differences between Civil and Criminal Cases, Investigations and Application for Forensics”. Mr. Farouk iterated that personnel in investigations ought to keep an analytical and open mind on the job. Mr. Farouk entreated the security personnel to be very sociable. “If you are not sociable, you will be an Island without people to get you information.”
Winneba Divisional Crime Officer, ASP Kojo Oppong Agyekum, assisted by D/CPL Bright Anku Kay Mawuli, took the personnel through “Crime Scene Approach and Management, Evidence Gathering, Evidence Protection and Search Warrant, Interviewing and Interrogation, as well as Ethics and Investigation”.
Mr. Oppong Agyekum underscored the importance of professionalism on the job as investigators, not spreading people’s privacy out of the office setting. Mr. Oppong Agyekum also encouraged the security personnel, taking up the duties of investigators, to learn to create a good rapport with the people they deal with.
The Director of Security Services, UEW, Mr. Batholomew A. Alubokin, ended the workshop with a presentation on “Stress Management, Surveillance, Detailed Report Writing, and Confidentiality”.
Mr. Alubokin educated the personnel on how to manage stress which comes from the people they deal with on the field of work as well as from home. He brought further insight on the need for confidentiality and why it can’t be compromised in their line of work.
Participants were allowed to ask questions and were given appropriate responses.
Also at the workshop were the Deputy Registrar of Human Resource (HR), Mrs. Deborah Afful, staff of HR, Ms. Patricia Kaitoo, Mr. Isaac Darkoh, and Ms. Christina Otabil.
