Prof. Richard T. Awuah
Prof. Richard Tuyee Awuah has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi and Master’s and Doctorate Degrees in Plant Pathology from Cornell University, New York. He was the Principal of the College of Agriculture Education of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). Before becoming Principal of CAGRIC, he was for many years Head of Department of Crop Science and later Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, both at KNUST. During his tenure at KNUST, he rose quickly through the ranks of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and finally became Professor in the year 2002.
Prof. Awuah has considerable University teaching and administrative experience, having spent nearly all of his professional life in educating students by way of teaching, thesis supervision, counseling and mentoring of students mainly at KNUST.
He has either served or continues to serve on many university, national and international committees and boards of which the following are worth mentioning: Member and later leader, National Best Farmer selection team: Member, National IPM Oversight Committee; Member, Board of Trustees of the National Science and Technology Research Endowment Fund; Council Member, Pan African Environmental Mutagen Society; Council Member, African Crop Science Society; Member, University of Education (UEW) Governing Council; Member, UEW Finance Committee; Member, Academic Boards of KNUST and UEW; Chairman, KNUST Public Lectures Committee; Member, KNUST and UEW Appointments and Promotions Committees; Chairman, KNUST Undergraduate Admissions Committee; Chairman, KNUST Printing Press Management Committee; Member, Executive Committees of KNUST and UEW; and Chairman, Ashanti Region Table Tennis Association.
After his statutory retirement, Prof. Awuah went back to the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources of KNUST. He has written close to 80 journal articles, conference papers, training manuals, technical and position papers. Most of his journal articles are in rigorously refereed international journals.
Prof. Awuah is a Fellow of the Ghana Institute of Horticulturists, a Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Council Member of the African Crop Science Society, a member of the Ghana Science Association and a member of the American Peanut Research and Education Society.
He is a Methodist by faith and currently a member of the Mount Zion Methodist Church, Kotei, Kumasi. He is married with two sons.
