MPHIL IN TEACHING ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

The Department seeks to offer the M.Phil TESL programme to enable English teachers upgrade themselves as well as to enhance their knowledge, skills, and performance in teaching English at both the pre-tertiary and tertiary levels of education in Ghana. Since the programme has pedagogy at its core, it incorporates academic, research and practical elements within its structure. At the end of the training, each graduate would have inculcated in them, core modules such as second language curriculum planning and implementation, describing English grammar, pedagogical English Grammar, and language testing. While the Regular two-year M.Phil Applied Linguistics programme offers regular 10 courses plus M.Phil thesis, the one-year Top-Up M.Phil programme offers two courses; one core and one elective. Students are also offered a unique opportunity to engage deeply and critically with the discipline of English teaching, and to provide them with a solid and rigorous foundation for their career aspirations.
