UEW-HPERS Receives Donation from Central Regional NSA
The Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports (HPERS), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has received a set of two-way 15-inch active speaker portable karaoke systems from the National Sports Authority (NSA), Central Region, to facilitate teaching and learning.
The brief event was held at the Department on UEW's North Campus. The donation came after a week-long coaching and officiating intermediate course for handball students organised by the Department of HPERS in partnership with the Central Regional Handball Association.
The Head of Department, HPERS, Mr. Munkaila Seibu, commended the NSA for its kind gesture to the department. He used the opportunity to call on other sporting associations to follow suit. “Giving back to the department goes a long way to support future generations. We are grateful to the NSA for this kind gesture and also seize this opportunity to encourage other organisations to do the same,” he remarked.
He revealed that the one-week course had helped the department to meet global expectations and exposed students to a variety of job paths to prepare them for success in life after they left school.
Mr. Seibu encouraged other disciplines in the department like basketball and badminton to also liaise with relevant stakeholders to organise coaching and officiating courses to sharpen the skills of their students as well as expose them to other career pathways. In addition to the teaching aptitude, this would eventually be of help to students and make them comfortable wherever they are posted to teach.
A Handball Lecturer at the Department of HPERS, Mrs. Rahmat Mensah, disclosed that the department is responsible for teaching students how to play, teach, coach, and officiate sporting disciplines hence, the weeklong training to equip them for the real world. She appreciated the NSA for the donation. She indicated that the items would be of great use to the department and be kept well.
The Head of Technical Department, NSA, Central Region, and the Regional Handball Coach, Mr. John Joel Niigata Oblie Ankrah, who presented the items to the department, stated that the motivation behind the donation was to help the development of sports, especially handball, in the department and also to facilitate the teaching of the discipline.
