Prof. Victor Antwi, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has charged first-year students for the 2024/2025 academic year to leverage the institution's diverse community and facilities to achieve academic excellence.

Speaking at the Intensive Pre-Academic Orientation Programme (IPOP) for undergraduate and postgraduate students, Prof. Antwi emphasised UEW's commitment to promoting a community enriched by diverse backgrounds and perspectives. “This diversity will not only enhance your learning experience but also prepare you to engage with a globalised world,” he asserted.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor underscored the importance of self-driven learning, problem-solving, and teamwork. Drawing from personal experience, he shared a story about a challenging tutorial session where students were encouraged to solve their own complex questions. “The aim is to train you to become a problem solver. Take advantage of our libraries, research facilities, and resources to push beyond your limits,” he advised.

Prof. Antwi highlighted the value of integrity and accountability as pillars of success, cautioning students against taking shortcuts. “In Ghana and beyond, hard work and dedication speak louder than shortcuts. Remember, integrity is as important as intelligence,” he stated.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor urged students to participate in extracurricular activities such as leadership groups, community projects, and internships to build confidence and essential skills. “University life is not just about passing exams. It is about growing as thinkers, problem solvers, and leaders who will shape society,” he affirmed.

Prof. Antwi advised the students to prioritise their health and well-being, encouraging them to eat well and seek help when required. “Remember, taking care of yourself is essential to your success,” he said.

As UEW embarks on a new academic year, it is clear the institution is dedicated to providing its students with a world-class education and a lifelong experience. With its emphasis on excellence, diversity, and integrity, UEW is poised to shape the minds and futures of its students, empowering them to make a meaningful impact in Ghana and beyond.
