HPERS Partners Ghana Badminton Association for the Teaching and Promotion of Badminton
The Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports (HPERS) and the Ghana Badminton Association (GBA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance the teaching and promotion of badminton in the country and across Africa.
The MoU, signed at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), will enable both parties to establish certain exchange programmes beneficial to the respective educational institutions within the confines of the agreement and to promote the development of joint studies, research and training activities, as well as other educational exchanges of mutual interest.
The two partner institutions would endeavour to encourage and facilitate as appropriate the advancement of linkages and cooperation between and through the sports agencies of respective institutions.
They would promote and engage in the exchange of experiences, skills, techniques, information and knowledge, subject to personnel capacity and intellectual property considerations. The cooperation under the MoU may include but not limited to the exchange of experts, technical officials, coaches and athletes in areas of sports.
The Head, Department of HPERS, Dr. Ernest Yeboah Acheampong, remarked that the MoU showcased the Department’s strive to expanding its core value as a sports department of the UEW.
“This partnership includes the exchange of expertise, programmes, training and helping our students leap ahead in research, sports management with a well-organised national sporting association. Already, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Research Grant is something we look forward to in terms of some of our students identifying themselves with badminton related research proposals.
“We would want to work with the best in sports management and we’re delighted that this agreement with the Ghana Badminton Association is in place. We’re looking forward to working alongside the Ghana Badminton Association in this mammoth collaboration for our mutual benefit,” he said.
Senior Lecturer in the Department, Prof. Humphrey Pufaa pointed out the need for national associations to partner with universities for scientific approaches and guidance to benefit from the accredited programmes which the universities offer.
The President of GBA, Mr. Evans Yeboah, on his part, stated that “our collaboration with the University of Education, Winneba is another great step forward for the growth of Ghana badminton. We are hopeful about this development and the partnership with the University, which is in line with our 2024 strategic growth plan of building partnerships with educational institutions in the country”.
He added that “this MoU agreement will not only promote educational research and sports development for the Ghana badminton ecosystem but offers opportunities and access for our BWF University course for the students at the University”.
