UEW Strengthens Academic-Industry Collaboration with Leading Industry Partners
The Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) received a delegation of industry leaders on a courtesy visit to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry in advancing teaching, research, career development and graduate employability.
The engagement, held at the Council Chamber of UEW on Friday, 24th July, 2026 ahead of a workshop organised by the Centre for African Studies, provided a platform for both parties to explore strategic partnerships in internships, mentorship, research, professional development and institutional capacity building.
Welcoming the delegation, Prof. Esther Yeboah Danso-Wiredu, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, expressed appreciation to the Centre for African Studies for facilitating the engagement, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening the University's relationship with industry.
She emphasised that sustained collaboration between universities and industry is essential to preparing graduates for the evolving demands of the world of work. She expressed optimism that the discussions would result in lasting partnerships that would enrich teaching and learning, enhance research and equip students with practical skills for national development.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo Esq., the Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), paid tribute to UEW's enduring contribution to national development through teacher education.
He observed that every professional owes his or her success to teachers, whose foundational role has shaped generations of leaders and professionals. He expressed confidence that the engagement would pave the way for mutually beneficial partnerships.
Mr. Alexander Kofi Mensah Mould, the Chief Executive Officer of the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA), underscored the need for stronger collaboration between universities and industry to bridge the gap between academic training and workplace expectations.
He said professionals in industry have a responsibility to support higher education by exposing students to practical experiences that complement classroom learning while mentoring the next generation of leaders.
"We need to work with the universities in career development. It is not only about placing students in organisations but helping them build their capabilities and confidence so that when they enter the workplace, they are fit for purpose and ready to contribute," he stated.
Mr. Mould further proposed collaboration on internships, career development, lecturer capacity building and strengthening university career centres to improve graduate readiness and national productivity.
Representatives of the University including Ms. Eva Annan, a Deputy Registrar and representative of the Registrar; Mr. Asare Okae-Anti, lecturer at the Department of Strategic Communication; and Mr. Daniel Yidana, a Senior Internal Auditor, welcomed the proposals and expressed confidence that the partnerships would create valuable opportunities for students, academic staff and administrators alike.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment by the University and the visiting delegation to strengthen collaboration in research, mentorship, internships, career development and professional capacity building to enhance graduate employability, promote innovation and contribute to Ghana's socio-economic development.
