UEW and Ghana Police Strengthen Ties with Scholarships and Enhanced Security Measures
In an initiative to bolster the professional development of members of the Ghana Police Service, the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has revealed plans to offer exclusive scholarships to members of the Ghana Police Service.
These scholarships are specifically intended for hardworking police officers keen on advancing their expertise in the critical areas of investigative reporting, human rights, and conflict resolution.
The announcement came during a familiarisation meeting at the Police Headquarters in Accra, which saw UEW Management, engage with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, and his senior management team in fruitful discussions.
The scholarships, which will cover both postgraduate and undergraduate programmes, aim to incentivise and reward the diligent efforts of police officers committed to excellence in their field.
Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual remarked that the Ghana Police Service had been a long-standing and integral partner of the university, and the gesture is a testament to the mutual respect and cooperation shared between the two institutions.
Dr. Akuffo-Dampare, in his response, lauded the engagement as a significant step forward, not just for the Police Service, but for institutional development on a broader scale. He commended UEW's leadership for their transparency and commitment, emphasising the importance of learning from errors to foster improvement and growth.
The IGP further encouraged the university's delegation to embrace teamwork and evidence-based actions to reach their ambitious goals for the university and the nation's educational landscape. He envisioned a future where UEW's resilience would set a benchmark for self-sufficiency and exemplary management.
Dr. Akuffo-Dampare revealed plans to introduce police mobile patrols at the UEW campus to enhance security and ensure the safety of students on campus, reinforcing the synergy between the educational and law enforcement sectors. "We are committed to creating a safe environment for all. Deploying police mobile patrols to the UEW campus is a step in that direction," he affirmed.
This collaboration marks a significant stride towards enriching the capabilities of the Ghana Police Service and underscores the commitment of both UEW and the Police Service to foster a safer, more educated, and more just society.
