Call for Papers | 7th Biennial Social Science Conference 2024
African Societies over the years have endured several challenges and continue to tolerate them. Some of these challenges relate to episodes of underdevelopment, poverty, hunger and food crisis, and diseases, accompanied by wobbly institutional frameworks to deal with these episodes. The expectation of society is the provision of robust governance structures and guideposts. The structures and processes designed to ensure responsiveness, inclusivity, and an empowered society have not often yielded the desired results. With the availability of enormous resources, accompanied by appropriate governance structures, society should sufficiently be catered for. However, this has not been the case. Institutions of governance designed to attenuate these challenges have barely been able to do so. Society has had to depend on individual devices to navigate through the effects of the various challenges it encountered. The incident of COVID-19 appears to have exposed the fragile nature of governance structures. Equity and inclusiveness were absent, society was barely prepared and empowered to adequately respond, and accountability and transparency were deficient. Public health mass education was in disarray, engendering fear and panic. In this regard, the 2024 Social Science Conference seeks to interrogate the post-pandemic adjustment from governance and societal perspectives. The organisers, therefore, seek and welcome submissions from researchers, academics, institutions, and individuals to include but not limited to the following sub-themes:
