Vision, Mission and Objectives

Leader in Teacher Education

Vision: The Centre for African Studies shall become a leading centre of teaching and research in African Studies and shall be recognised for its leadership role in Africa and beyond.

Mission: The Centre for African Studies serves as a centre of excellence, which inculcates in the students of the University the requisite knowledge and understanding  about the challenges facing Africa, and the skills, strategies and attitudes needed to contribute towards the development of Africa in general and Ghana in particular, as competent professional teachers. 

Goals and Objectives

  1. The Centre for African Studies seeks to: 
  2. provide functional skills and competencies that would enhance students’ personal development.
  3. broaden the horizon of students, by exposing them to areas of curriculum outside their main areas of specialisation.
  4.  equip students with the knowledge and skills that will enable them participate meaningfully in social life.
  5. make students become more aware of issues about and pertaining to Africa and how they impact the development of the continent and the countries therein.
  6. make students proud of their African heritage and thus contribute towards the preservation of the rich cultures of the continent.
  7. enable students develop their African identity and their sense of patriotism.

Core Values
The core values needed to accomplish the mission and vision of the Centre for African Studies are anchored on the university-wide core values of UEW, and include:
