The Department of Agricultural Science Education Supports Green Ghana Initiative
The Department of Agricultural Science Education, University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has thrown its weight behind the Green Ghana Initiative in a tree planting exercise carried out on 13th July, 2022.
The Department supported the Green Ghana project, which seeks to plant trees to lower the atmospheric carbon concentrations that fuel climate change. The effort also aims to preserve the ecological balance that exists naturally on Earth so that all living things can live and flourish in their natural habitat.
The Forestry Commission, Winneba, gave a total of 400 seedlings from species such as cyber, mahoghany, ofram, cassia spp, and gbelima to the Department to embark on the tree planting exercise at the North and South Campuses of the University.
The Head, Department of Agricultural Science Education, Dr. Benjamin Ghansah, indicated that the initiative was a step in the right direction aimed at protecting the environment.
“We at UEW want to start this initiative to grow more trees to minimise carbon and enhance sustainability”. He further hinted that the Department of Agricultural Science Education, recently established, would undertake similar initiatives in the future.
Present at the tree planting exercise were the Dean of the Faculty of Science Education, Prof. Victor Antwi, who represented the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Kwasi Asante, Dr. Kwabena Kyere, Dr. Felix Tetteh Kabutey, Mr. Isaac Tete-Mensah, Ms. Hannah Ama Ansah and student volunteers of the Agricultural Science Department.
The newly established Department currently offers one post-graduate programme, MPhil Environmental Science Education, along with three undergraduate programmes, namely BSc Agricultural Science Education, Environmental Health and Sanitation Education, and Environmental Science Education.
