Creative Arts Policy: UEW Lecturers Urged to Produce Ingenious Research to Add Value
The Director of Quality Assurance, University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Prof. Emmanuel Obed Acquah, has challenged creative arts academics to produce insightful indigenous research to advance the country's development efforts through the creative arts sector.
While UEW is required to prepare students to teach and practise the creative arts, as well as to encourage community involvement and consultation, he asserted that academics must conduct cutting-edge indigenous research and disseminate the findings to raise public awareness and earn government recognition for their contribution to nation-building.
He said this at the closing ceremony of a three-day maiden Creative Arts Conference held from Tuesday 28th to Thursday 30th June, 2022, at the School of Creative Arts (SCA) Theatre, Central Campus, UEW.
Prof. Acquah, who was speaking on the topic “Creative Arts Schools: A Bulwark for Ghana’s Future”, made creative arts trainers aware of their monumental role in the sustainable industrial development of mother Ghana.
The Vice-Dean, SCA, Prof. Samuel Manasseh Yirenkyi, commended the University Management and the entire organising team for their efforts in making the programme a success. He encouraged all the participants and facilitators to keep the conversation going.
"Even though we've done a lot in the last three days, we still need to continue our dialogue by having more joint conversations, writing more papers, and having more intellectual debates. We must keep asking ourselves whether we are prepared to handle the problems facing the creative arts space both now and in the future," he said.
Prof. Yirenkyi revealed the SCA’s determination to make the three-day conference an annual event to allow them to constantly challenge, discuss, dialogue, and reflect on the best practices within the creative arts industries and education policy.
He indicated that their success as industry players would be measured by their ability to keep pace with modern trends.
