UEW Vice-Chancellor Celebrates University Community at 2022 Carols Service
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Prof. Mawutor Avoke, has commended staff, students and other members of the university community for their commitment and support in chalking up the university's successes for 2022.
Reflecting on the university's activities during the year, he underscored the need for members of the university community to celebrate their collective accomplishments.
The Vice-Chancellor made these remarks at the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols organised by the Chaplaincy Board of the University, at the School of Creative Arts Theatre, Central Campus, UEW, on Wednesday, 14th December, 2022.
“This time of the year is an opportunity for reflection. My dear friends, at the turn of the year, divine providence restored me and some colleagues to the university and entrusted us with a duty to serve you in the management of the university. We sought your support in this endeavour, and you indeed did not let us down,” he said.
Prof. Avoke indicated management’s relentless desire to reconcile and heal the university community for greater impact. He also highlighted some of the major gains in the just ending year.
“In the year under review, our sports team brought us a lot of joy with their exploits both on the African continent and at home during the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) games. Our contribution to our nation, inspired by our mandate to train competent professional teachers for all levels of education, was second to none, with two of our products emerging as the first and second runner-ups at the national best teacher’s awards,” he stated.
The Vice-Chancellor also acknowledged that the University had its fair share of challenges in the year 2022, both at the students’ front and in the university management’s collective stride to steer the institution towards the path of excellence. “By the grace of God and with your special support, we stood together, working side-by-side to weather the storm. We pulled through on the back of your sweat, dedication and innovations.”
Prof. Avoke expressed his anticipation of greater laurels and seeing all staff better, healthier and with a stronger resolve to unleash the touch of excellence to propel UEW to achieve its vision and mission in the year 2023.
“We wish you a blessed, cheerful and auspicious Christmas celebration. May the season bring along many more joys and cheers to you and your families. Warm Christmas wishes to you all! Merry Christmas and a prosperous year!” he proclaimed.
The event saw performances from the university's numerous labour organisations as well as a sketch from the Department of Theatre Arts.
