UEW Backs Effutu GES: Pledges to Boost Education Standards
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has professed its unwavering commitment to elevate academic standards and empower students through an innovative collaboration with the Effutu Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
A pivotal moment occurred on Wednesday, 6th December, 2023, when a delegation from the Effutu GES, led by the newly appointed Director, Madam Dinah Anderson, paid a courtesy call to the UEW Management. The meeting took place at the Council Chamber of UEW, North Campus, Winneba, setting the stage for a transformative partnership.
During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor of UEW, Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, unveiled plans to launch a neighbourhood academic initiative. This initiative aims to select promising students from various basic schools within the community and provide them with top-notch weekend tuition at the university campus.
Prof. Mitchual emphasised the university's commitment to enhancing the academic achievement of basic and secondary school students in the Effutu municipality.
"We will need statistics from your outfit on how the students are performing. We shall set up a committee that will lead that, and we will need a member from your outfit. The university would like to help the community by setting up a scholarship scheme for only Effutu indigenes," Prof. Mitchual announced during the meeting.
He further pledged UEW's readiness to collaborate with the Effutu GES Directorate on multiple projects aimed at positively impacting the lives of students. The Vice-Chancellor expressed his desire for the GES Director to bring attention to any existing gaps, allowing the university to provide cutting-edge research and consulting services to address challenges effectively.
Madam Dinah Anderson, in response, lauded the invaluable support UEW had already provided and expressed anticipation for an intensified collaboration. "It's all about support. You have much expertise and professionals; we will always come and collaborate with you for you to also help us. We are privileged to have UEW around, and I believe you are going to support us big time," she affirmed.
The meeting concluded with a sense of optimism, as both parties pledged to work together to uplift education standards in the Effutu community. The promise of a scholarship scheme, weekend tuition programmes, and collaborative projects underscores UEW's commitment to making a lasting impact on the lives of students and the educational landscape in the municipality. As Effutu GES and UEW join forces, the future holds great promise for a brighter and more empowered generation of learners.
