15 UEW-SCA Students Earn Global Recognition
The innovative artworks of 15 students from the School of Creative Arts (SCA), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), have been recognised by a reputable international art exhibition entity, Exploring Visual Cultures (EVC), during a virtual exhibition.
The exhibition, titled Collective Memory, is a collaborative project amongst partners in Cameroon, Germany, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa. It was done under various thematic areas in the creative arts industry.
The framework for the exhibition was based on the principle of memories contributed to the creation of multiple forms of identities that depict people’s histories and perceptions. The exhibition featured eight universities across the world.
As part of the recognition, students who had their artistries selected and featured were honoured at a brief ceremony by SCA faculty members on Thursday, 25th August, 2022, at the SCA Conference Room at the Central Campus of UEW.
The Ag. Dean of SCA, Prof. Emmanuel Obed Acquah, expressed pride in the accomplishments of the students whose works were featured during the international exhibition. He encouraged them to keep up their good work and never give up in their quest for excellence.
"I am delighted that you have entered the academic world and have expanded internationally. The fact that the entire faculty has gathered here to give you this much-deserved recognition speaks volumes of your accomplishments," he said.
Immediate past Dean of SCA and member of the EVC Expert Panel, Prof. Patrique deGraft Yankson, threw more light on EVC and its collaboration with UEW. He expressed appreciation to faculty members for availing themselves to make the project a success.
"Following our discussions with the EVC staff, we assembled an eight-person team of subject-matter specialists to help localise the idea. We moved around to collect images, and after we submitted our works to them, the Germans came down to interact with us. At this point, they were more than persuaded that there should be some form of exchange," he explained.
The Director, Centre for Research, Culture, and Creative Arts (CeRCCA), UEW, Dr. Osuani Kweku Essel, also commended the students for their efforts in the accomplishments. He provided further insight into the artwork the students submitted for the exhibition.
"Students created memories with their artworks, and I am glad that 15 of our students took the opportunity, and it’s now one of their greatest achievements. This is a platform for artists at the highest level to showcase their talents," he stated.
Students who participated in the international exhibition were presented with catalogues. The rest of the catalogues were handed over to the new SCA library at the Central Campus.
Also present at the event were the Vice-Dean of SCA, Dr. Evans Asante; Head of Department (HoD), Theatre Arts, Dr. (Mrs.) Faustina Brew; HoD of Music Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Augusta Ako Mensah; Senior Lecturer at the Department of Graphic Design and member of the EVC Expert Panel, Dr. Ebenezer Acquah; Immediate Past HoD of Graphic Design, Dr. Joseph Essuman; Immediate Past Vice-Dean of SCA, Prof. Samuel Manasseh Yirenkyi; and Faculty Officer, Dr. (Mrs.) Pearl Hammond.
