Geography Education Students Association (GEOSA)

Overview/Description

Geography Students Association (GEOSA) is the name of the Students Association in the Department. It was established in 2014 and its mandate is to promote the welfare of students in the Department.  

Aims and objectives 

The major aims and objectives of the Association shall be to:

  1. Act as a student representative body for members of the Association.
  2. Organize social and formal events for members.
  3. Work in close collaboration with other organizations with aims and objectives compatible with our course
  4. Foster spirit of solidarity among members.
  5. Foster academic development of members through the organization of academic seminars, fieldtrips and academic oriented programmes.

Dr. Yaw Asamoah, a lecturer in the Department is the patron for the Association.

Activities

The Association undertake the underlisted activities within every academic year.

  1. Seminars  : Two different seminars are organized  in each academic year.
  2. General Meetings : In every academic year, four general meetings are organized by the Association.
  3. Radio Programme : The Association takes part in a weekly radio programme to sensitize students about happenings on campus. 
  4. Keep fit : There is also a monthly keep fit campaign organized by the Association for the members.
  5. Freshers Welcome programme: This is organized annually to welcome new members to the Association. 
  6. GEOSA Week Celebration : This is an annual Celebration for members.
  7. Educational Trips: It is organized two times in an academic year.
  8. GEOSA Elections : This is organized annually to elect new executives for the next academic year. 
  9. GEOSA Dinner and Awards Night : It is organized annually to show appreciation and also hand over management of the Association to new officers 
  10. Annual Project :  Every Academic year the Association undertake a project for the Benefit of members

Achievements

  1. In 2014/2015 Academic year, the Association introduced the production of Association Souvenirs, Formulated the Associations’ Constitution and partook in meetings to establish Ghana Geography Students Association.
  2. In 2015/2016 academic year, the Association acquired a multipurpose printing machine and office wares for the GEOSA office and students use.
  3. Two Notice Boards, 3 Public Address Systems, 3 projectors and Sports items were provided by the Association in 2016/2017 academic year, for both Departmental and Students use 
  4. The Association introduced the GEOSA Anthem for GEOSA and made plans for Tree planting on Campus in 2017/2018 academic year.
  5. In 2018/2019 academic year, the Association continued and executed the Tree planting exercise on campus at the Faculty Block at North Campus and acquired 4 microphones to aid teaching and learning.  They have also initiated the GEOSA Weather Station project to have a Weather Station on campus to aid in learning and weather reporting.
