Brief History

The Department of Geography Education was established in September 2013, and a member of the Faculty of Social Sciences Education. Until 2013, it was just a Unit under the then Department of Social Science Education. Due to the growing interest in the subject, there was the need to roll out a programme that would train Geography Educators, hence the inception the Bachelor of Arts in Geography Education programme. In 2013, the then Department of Social Science Education was separated into four different Departments namely; Political Science, History, Economics and Geography Education, which became one of the Departments. Students who choose to study B.A. Geography Education are made to select options from these other departments as minor area.The Department is currently housed on the Second Floor of the Faculty of Social Sciences Education Block (popularly called Faculty) at the North Campus.
