UEW Faculty of Home Economics Education Embarks on End of Year Retreat
The Faculty of Home Economics Education (FHEE), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has embarked on a three-day retreat in fulfilment of objective 7.0 of the UEW Corporate Strategic Plan (2019-2023), which stipulates “Developing innovative curriculum and instructional designs with a key performance indicator of attending a retreat annually” and also strengthen bonds at the faculty.
The retreat, under the theme “Building the capacity of faculty for maximum efficiency”, took place from Wednesday 8th to Friday 10th December, 2021, at the Elmina Beach Resort in the Central region of Ghana.
In her opening remarks, Dean, FHEE, Prof. Phyllis Forster, disclosed, "We are here to refresh ourselves, improve our standards, and build our capacities better so that our work in the university will be very effective."
Prof. Phyllis Forster also stated that at the end of the programme, all participants would have benefited greatly in terms of being better prepared to face the challenges ahead.
The Dean, Faculty of Science Education (FSE), Prof. Ruby Hanson, addressing participants on the topic “Developing career path”, urged faculty members to as individuals and a faculty, have a vision, live up to the vision, and plan towards the vision to enable them to move up the academic ladder.
Prof. Hanson also advised participants to recognise that they cannot do it all alone because at some point they will require the assistance of some people to perfect their brilliant ideas, noting that strength lies in unity.
She also entreated participants to find their destiny helpers and have critical friends who would be willing and available to critique their works to bring the best out of them.
Prof. Ruby also admonished all participants to persevere and not be discouraged, for they can do much better than they imagine.
The retreat had resource persons such as Prof. Yaw Ameyaw who touched on Funded Research and Skills in Writing and Publishing Academic Papers, Dr. Gideon Anapey, Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods and Dr. Kwaa Aidoo providing insight on IT Competencies (MS Excel).
Participants were allowed to ask questions, and appropriate responses were provided. They were divided into groups and assigned specific tasks in which presentations were put forward.
