Department of Integrated Home Economics Holds Fashion Show
The Department of Integrated Home Economics Education of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has thrilled its audiences with a spectacular and fabulous fashion show at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, North Campus, UEW.
With ‘Standout models,’ the Level 400 students turned their project work into titillating showbiz, just to showcase to the world, what they can offer.
The spectators, who almost filled the auditorium, could not hold their excitement as they took to their feet to take videos of the exhibitions, ranging from beach wears, swim wears, wedding costumes among others. It was obvious that the side attraction was the walkways, the modelling, and the “wedding pairings” to showcase the wedding gowns.
Speaking to the media at the event, the Head of Department (HoD), Integrated Home Economics Education, Dr. Rosemary Quarcoo explained that although the programme formed part of the course component, it also intended to boost the morale of the students to do more, as well as sell the faculty to the Ghanaian public. Dr. Rosemary Quarcoo further intimated that as the world now revolves around fashion, it was imperative to understand its trends and meet its growing demands.
The show attracted eminent persons such as the Ag. Registrar of UEW, Mrs. Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah; the Municipal Chief Executive for Effutu, Hon. Alhaji Kassim Zubairu; Dean, Faculty of Home Economics Education (FHEE), Dr. Elizabeth Lani Ashong; immediate past Dean of FHEE, Prof. Phyllis Forster; representatives from the Deputy Majority Speaker’s office plus a host of other heads of departments from UEW.
Windy news can authoritatively report that people with a great fashion sense who were present to witness the awesome fashion exhibition, will no longer waste their time and money buying from big brands, as all can be gotten right here in UEW
Perhaps, as the search by Ghanaian youths for jobs continue, emphasis must be placed on entrepreneurial programmes such as fashion and designing, with a governmental policy to promote African/ Ghanaian prints
This could go a long way to cut the over-reliance on foreign clothing which rather generates employment and revenue for other countries.
