On-Campus Residential Accommodation Application, Approval, and Room Allocation at The Ajumako Campus of UEW: A Report for the 2022/2023 Academic Year
Abstract
Ajumako Hall is the only residential accommodation facility at the College of Languages Education, University of Education, Winneba, Ajumako Campus. It consists of (3) different residential blocks, which altogether accommodate 341 students. Some rooms accommodate one, two, and three students depending on the room size. Each room has its own exclusive toilet and bath facilities. Over the years, the application for and allocation of residential accommodation to students has been a daunting task. Students who preferred to stay in on-campus residential accommodation had to come to Ajumako Campus to pick a set of pay-in-slip, fill in an application form, and go to the Assinman Rural Bank (available only in a few parts of the Central Region), and make payment, irrespective of their location in Ghana. In the 2022/2023 academic year, the online application system was adopted in order to forestall all inconveniences. This write-up presents a comprehensive report on the residential accommodation application, approval, and room allocation process with recommendations for better service to stakeholders in the future.
Profile of Mr. Andy Yao Agordah
Mr. Andy Yao Agordah is a Senior Assistant Registrar at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). He is currently the Hall Manager at the College of Languages Education, Ajumako a Campus of UEW.
Academic and Professional Qualifications
Mr.Agordah holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French and Spanish from the University of Ghana, Legon. He took a Postgraduate Diploma course in Archival Studies from the Information Studies Department of the same University. He further pursued a Master of Public Administration at the School of Administration, UG, Legon, and graduated in 2005.
Mr. Agordah is a member of the Association of University Administrators, AUA UK, and a member of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
Career
Mr. Agordah started his administration career in the then University College of Education of Winneba in February 1999 as a Junior Assistant Registrar at the Publications Unit of the Registry. He was transferred to the Registrar’s Secretariat to take charge of the University Council Matters.
Mr. Agordah subsequently served as the Assistant Registrar at the School of Research and Graduate Studies and at the Employee Relations and Training Unit of the Division of Human Resources. Other positions held include University Relations Officer, Senior Assistant Registrar at the Centre for International Programmes and Faculty Officer, Faculty of Languages Education,
He was transferred to Ajumako Campus of UEW in May 2022 as a Hall Manager, a position he currently holds in the College of Languages Education, Ajumako.
Key Services
At the National Level, Mr. Agordah has served as one of the Secretaries to the Presidential Committee constituted to review education reforms in Ghana. He also served as secretary to the Basic Education Sub-Committee of the Presidential Committee.
At UEW, Mr. Agordah served as secretary to a number of Statutory Committees as well as to the Adhoc Committees of the University Council between 2000 and 2003, Other Committees which he serviced include the Development Committee, the Finance Committee, the then Tender Board, the Graduate Board, the 2007 Statutes Review Committee and other Ad-hoc Committees.
Award
In 2010, the International Research and Exchanges Board of the Carnegie Corporation of New York awarded Mr. Agordah a fellowship to study the admissions management system of the George Mason University, located in Fairfax, Virginia, USA.
Mr. Agordah wrote a proposal and was awarded 12,300 US Dollars in 2011 by the Carnegie Corporation of New York for a pilot project on the management of admission records at the School of Graduate Studies at UEW.

Proposal for the Development of a Supplement Corporate Strategic Plan (2024-2026)
Abstract
The Corporate Strategic Plan (2019-2023) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) was developed with a focus on the university’s four campuses (Winneba, Kumasi, Mampong, and Ajumako) that existed at the time. Hence, there were some key activities that primarily targeted the satellite campuses which are no longer with UEW. That notwithstanding, the document has been very useful in the preparation and implementation of the annual action plans by the various sections of the university.
With the expiration of the Plan in December 2023, it has become necessary that processes are initiated to develop a new plan. However, a review of the implementation of the plan indicates that there are outstanding activities that are still very relevant for the achievement of the university’s mission. It is therefore proposed that instead of developing an entirely new Corporate Strategic Plan, a Supplement Plan could be drawn from the existing Strategic Plan to cover the outstanding strategic objectives and key activities. A Supplement Strategic Plan seeks to update an existing Strategic Plan and the roadmap for the implementation.
The UEW Corporate Strategic Plan (2019-2023) has been described in various quarters as a very comprehensive and promising Plan. There is therefore the need to make extra efforts to implement it fully.
Profile of Mr. Prince Asiedu
Mr. Prince Asiedu is a Senior Assistant Registrar (Planning) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). He is currently the Acting Planning Officer and Head of the Planning Unit of UEW. He is a native of Agona Bobikuma in the Central Region of Ghana.
Academic and Professional Qualifications
Mr. Asiedu completed his secondary education at the Swedru Secondary School in 1994. He continued to pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree programme in Statistics & Computer Science at the University of Ghana, Legon, and graduated in the year 2000. He further offered a Master of Philosophy Degree programme in Development Studies at the University of Cape Coast, while also pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma Degree in Monitoring and Evaluation Methods at the Stellenbosch University in South Africa.
Mr. Asiedu is a member of the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants (CIAMC), a Chartered Professional Administrator (ChPA), and a member of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
Career
Immediately after graduating from the University of Ghana, Mr. Asiedu worked at the Tema Oil Refinery as a Technical Staff at the Computer Section of the Refinery for a period of six months. He then exited to pursue his National Service at the University of Cape Coast, where he was assigned as an Information Technology and Mathematics Tutor at the University Practice Secondary School, Cape Coast. After his National Service, he was employed at the University of Education, Winneba as a Statistician in the Planning Unit of the University, where he had worked for the past 21 years.
He rose from the position of Senior Statistician to Principal Statistician, and in 2013 offered an appointment as an Assistant Registrar (Planning). He was promoted to the position of Senior Assistant Registrar (Planning) in 2019. Prior to his promotion, he was appointed as the Acting Planning Officer of the University in 2017, a position he has held up to date.
Key Services
Mr. Asiedu has played very key roles in statistics and records management, strategic planning and institutional/programme accreditation matters. He has served on a number of statutory committees and ad-hoc committees of the University. He has also been a key member of the University’s electoral team for the organisation of various elections on the university campus.
